Starting school is an exciting time. At Cabot Primary School we endeavour to give your child the best possible start to their school life. Our Reception classrooms have been designed to facilitate free-flow play, enabling the children to access both the indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day.
Our team works closely with local preschools and nurseries to find the best ways to support your child as they start Reception at Cabot Primary School. To further support the transition we hold new parent meetings and transition sessions in the summer term prior to your child starting. We begin the autumn term with a staggered start so that the children can get used to their new environment and routines.
Early Years is the start of our pupil’s journey to gaining skills, knowledge and a positive attitude to lifelong learning. We understand that it is vital to provide an appropriate topic based curriculum that supports the individual needs of every child, therefore, the curriculum is tailored to enable all children to have a high quality learning experience. We pride ourselves that our curriculum is ambitious, planed and sequenced so that children can develop their unique place in the wider community.
Early Years Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact

The principles that guide the work in EYFS are grouped into themes;
- A unique child
- Positive relationships
- Enabling environment
- Learning and development
The curriculum consists of seven areas of learning and development;
- Personal, social, and emotional development
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Mathematics
- Literacy
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
We know that happy learners make successful learners. Our reception class staff offer a kind and nurturing start to school which encourages children to develop and feel confident in themselves. We pride ourselves on our positive relationships with parents; we recognise that working together can really benefit each child. Throughout the year we invite Reception Class parents to be involved in our ‘drop-in’ sessions to share all the brilliant learning. We also run workshops to help and support our parents in our approach to the teaching of phonics and early reading.
We offer an ‘open-door’ policy where parents can come and talk with teachers at a mutually convenient time.
If your child will be starting school in September 2023 we’d love to show you around our school and tell you more about our Early Years teaching. Please contact Joanna Staley in the school office on 0117 377 2630, [email protected]
